Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.
This week’s idea comes from a recent survey done by Solar Winds. The IT management and monitoring software vendor asked their 100,000 customers on the role of IT in the business, and the most disruptive technologies faced by IT.
Their survey results are interesting in many aspects, but in particular was the result that “Bring Your Own” was the most disruptive emerging technology. BYOx edged out mobility, cloud computing, compliance, virtualization, analytics, self-service automation, and virtual networks.
They asked, “What are the top emerging technologies impacting/evolving the role of IT?” Nearly 25% of the respondents (and almost 40% of mid-size businesses) said ‘Bring Your Own X’ (BYOx) which includes devices (BYOD) and applications (BOYA).
Nearly one-fourth of all IT pros surveyed indicated that Bring Your Own ___ (BYOx) – such as device (BYOD) or application (BYOA) – is the emerging technology that is most disruptive to business (in terms of having the most significant impact on business operations as well as IT time/energy spent).
What are the pain points of BYOx for your organization? What is your BYOx plan? How does it help you manage the complexity created by BYOx?
That’s a WRAP! Have a great weekend.
