CyberSecurity Tech Accord: New Thinking About Increasing Resiliance

Dateline: April 27, 2018

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.

It’s clear we need some new thinking to increase cyber resiliency in our society.  Recently tech execs from more than 30 leading companies made a public commitment, called the Cybersecurity Tech Accord, to improve cybersecurity.  The Accord website, cybertechaccord.org, stated the goals of this pledge:

The Cybersecurity Tech Accord is a public commitment among more than 30 global companies to protect and empower civilians online and to improve the security, stability and resilience of cyberspace.

To do this, the companies, including Cisco, Dell, Facebook, HP, Microsoft, Oracle and many more internet, communications, and information infrastructure companies, committed to action in 4 areas:

Stronger defense against cyberattacks- protecting all customers globally regardless of the motivation for attacks online.

No offensive activity- the companies will not help governments launch cyberattacks against citizens or enterprises.

Capacity building- the companies will do more to empower developers and customers to help them improve their capacity for protecting themselves including join work on new security practices and new features.

Collective action- establish new formal and informal partnerships with many other organizations to improve collaboration, coordinate disclosures, share threats and minimize potential for malicious code.

Future actions may include jointly developed guidelines or broadly deployed features, as well as information sharing and partnering to combat specific threats to make the online world a safer place for people and businesses everywhere — and uphold the promise and benefit technology offers society.

How would you like to see this accord put into action?  How can this new collective help you and your company be more cyber resilient?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a great weekend!
