Texting and Friending are not Relationship Builders

Dateline: February 21, 2014

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.

This week’s thought comes from a blog I ran across recently by Michael Houlihan & Bonnie Harvey, wine entrepreneurs and authors of the Barefoot Spirit (based on their successful brand, Barefoot Wine).  Although they wrote this blog a while ago, their message is just as relevant today as we continue the progression into increasingly virtual worlds.   They commented,

In this virtual world we spend so much time in, it’s easy to believe texting and friending are relationship building. They’re not. Genuine lasting and dependable relationships take time and physical presence. High touch beats high tech every time.

Your physical presence can build trust you can’t even approach with a keyboard, screen or profile image. People want in-person attention, it’s that simple. If you make the time necessary for a personal meeting, they will not only remember you, but they will appreciate the effort it took.

Which of your relationships would be strengthened by a physical presence?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a nice weekend.
