Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.
A recent blog at Forbes by leadership mythbuster Mike Myatt challengingly titled “Why You’re Not a Leader” suggests that not everyone is suited to lead, even if they want to be a leader.
Everybody thinks they’re a leader – most are far from it. The harsh reality is that we live in a world awash with wannabe leaders. As much as some don’t want to admit it, not everyone can or should become a leader. Simply desiring to be a leader doesn’t mean a person has the character, skill, and courage necessary to be a leader.
He says your not a leader if:
- You don’t get results
- You get results the wrong way
- You don’t care
- You’re chasing the position and not a higher purpose
- You care more about making promises than keeping them
- You put people in boxes
- You follow the rules instead of breaking them
- You churn talent instead of retain it
- You take credit instead of giving it
- You care about process more than people
Are you a leader? Do you want to be?
That’s a WRAP! Have a wonderful weekend.
