Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.
This week’s idea stems from the increasingly fast paced business environment we all operate in. Just when it feels like we have our hands around a project, something shifts and the race is on again to shift with it. Agile development is the current way IT shops manage this pacing. Samuel Greengard, a contributing writer for CIO Insight, recently published a nice summary of agile under the title, “Five Things to Know About Agile Development.” Those 5 things are:
- Agile isn’t just about being faster and more responsive, it’s about continuous delivery.
- An enterprise-centric and top-down model doesn’t work with agile development.
- The successful use of agile requires a shift in mindset.
- An enterprise must adapt agile to the organization’s dynamics and footprint.
- Agile requires more than pure development skills. (hint: developers must not only know tech, but understand business requirements, strategy, etc)
How well do your developers understand the business environment? How can you increase their understanding?
That’s a WRAP! Have a fantastic Weekend.
