Cybersecurity Governance a Priority for CISOs in 2018

Dateline: March 16, 2018

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.

We have been focusing on cybersecurity management and leadership lately.  With increasing focus on breaches, attacks, and ransoms, it’s clear that cybersecurity leaders are being stretched very thin.  Figuring out how to get ahead of these issues is paramount.  And it’s more than finding newer technology to strengthen the barriers around the company.

Recently TechTarget Security asked a number of CISOs about their priorities for 2018.  The article, CISOs map out their cybersecurity plan for 2018, suggests that governance and process maturity are high on the list this year.

…CISOs must make strengthening their governance and maturity a top priority in 2018 if they want to keep pace with the growing sophistication of hackers.

“Get the maturity up on those processes because that’s what’s going to make your work repeatable. That’s the kind of work that will get you in a good place,” [Stephen E. Lipka, the former global CISO at real estate company Cushman & Wakefield] said, “because the best technology doesn’t work well if you don’t have the processes around it.”

What does your governance for cybersecurity look like?  How mature are your processes? Does the average employee think about keeping your systems/data secure?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a great weekend!
