Connecting with Busy People

Dateline: Feburary 12, 2016

The world is competing for the attention of the most successful people. If you want to meet them — and break through and build a lasting connection — the best strategy is to make them come to you.

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.  Author and teacher Dorie Clark recently shared networking secrets of successful people in a Harvard Business Review article, How Successful People Network with Each Other.  In her article, she describes a technique she calls “inbound networking,” a way for business, successful people to connect when the ‘let’s meet for coffee’ strategy just doesn’t work any more.  She explains,

Instead, you can successfully network with the most prominent people by doing something very different from everyone else: attracting them to you with inbound networking. In other words, make yourself interesting enough that they choose to seek you out.

Doris suggests finding a commonality between you and the people you want to meet, becoming a connoisseur — a genuine expertise in something that sets you apart, and becoming the center of a network.  Her article shares the ‘how tos’ and they make a lot of sense.

How will you connect with successful people you want to meet?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a great weekend!
