Raising a CIO

Dateline: March 31, 2017

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.

Becoming a CIO continues to be a noble goal for many technology- and business-minded executives.  “Every company is an IT company today,” as the saying goes, and being the leader of this area can be exciting and impactful.  But becoming an effective CIO means having strong business, technology and social skills, an unique combination to say the least.  Recently CIO.com published an insightful interview with serial CIO Dr. Lawrence Williams.  In the article, IT Career Roadmap: It Take a Village to Raise a CIO, Dr. Williams says,

“It takes a village to ‘raise’ an executive! Don’t feel like you can only have one mentor; find and cultivate as many relationships as you need, from all walks of life and from as many different perspectives as you can find, so you can work together and hopefully emulate their backgrounds,” he says.

Who is part of your village?  How do you build a community of mentors, peers, and supporters who can help ‘raise you’?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a wonderful weekend.
