Managing Your Data Vision

Dateline: August 19, 2016

Data-first companies represent the biggest competitive threat to more traditional players. Unlike their older counterparts, data is integrated into their DNA, so they think and operate differently. The disruptive effects of such companies are causing more mature businesses to redefine “business as usual.”

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.

Building plans for managing data is increasingly difficult. Recently, journalist Lisa Morgan wrote an article in Information Week on the 10 Reasons Your Data Vision will Fail.  She suggests,

  • The Vision Lacks Focus
  • The Vision is Not Operationalized
  • Execution is not consistent
  • Data Obsession Hinders Effectiveness
  • Bets Are Placed on the Wrong Technology
  • Intuition Reigns Supreme
  • Silver Bullets Cause Blindness
  • Execution is Oversimplified
  • Yesterday’s Approaches Still Prevail
  • Progress Isn’t Measured

Does your data strategy suffer from any of these signs of trouble?  If so, what can you do to change things?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a wonderful weekend!
