Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend. Mastering public speaking enhances our overall reputation and can also increase our confidence and our leadership ability. Recently my friend Dr. Nick Morgan published a great blog with Seven Secrets for Public Speaking. His website, Public Words, contains many wonderful pieces that are worth reading, but this one particularly caught my attention. Here are the seven secrets:
- Try turning off Slideware
- Keep track of where you are
- Find moments of passion
- Tell the audience something it doesn’t know- but don’t tell it everything you know
- Build suspense by starting a story or promising an insight, and then delivering it later
- Indulge in some generosity
- Keep track of your time and finish two minutes early
