Machine Learning Shows Promise for Data Security

Dateline: July 28, 2017

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.

Security of our data continues to be a struggle for many information systems leaders.  Recently an article was published at CIO.com titled, Machine Learning is Transforming Data Security. In this article,  data security was thought to be a big problem in part because of the cost, complexity and rapidly changing threats the organization continually faces.  Virtually everyone has security measures for the most sensitive and valuable data, when they can identify it.  But securing the rest of the data assets is a bigger challenge.  The solution is both people and technology based. As the article suggests,

Implementing machine learning in security systems can not only free up team members to focus on other things but – more importantly – these systems can monitor threats and issues at a scale that humans just can’t replicate.  In addition, machine learning systems can help IT professionals better locate and manage their sensitive data, recommend remediation efforts and actions, and gain a better understanding of who is accessing and using data across the organization.

Have you begun to investigate AI and machine learning for your data security plan?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a great weekend!
