Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.
Dr. Linda Pittenger, formerly a CIO, an HR Director, a consultant and now an Associate Professor at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, shared with the Society for Information Management some of her recent research on traits that distinguish superior IT leaders from average IT leaders. She found these major differences:
–>Great technical workers don’t always make great leaders
–>The best leaders have expansive networks inside and outside the firm that provide guidance.
–>Average manager follow the rules, but superior performing managers don’t let the rules get in the way of their results.
–>Great leaders are politically savvy, seek out and cultivate power relationships in the organization, and pre-sell influencers on issues.
How do you identify the next great leaders in your organization? What do you look for?
That’s a WRAP! Have a great weekend!
