It’s Time To Celebrate Your Successes

Dateline: January 1, 2016

Welcome to our Friday WRAP – one thought-provoking idea to think about over the weekend.

Happy New Year!  Today is an important day for many.  So today’s thought for the day is around celebrating.

Recently, I ran across a thoughtful blog post titled, “You’ll Never Succeed if You Don’t Celebrate,” written by Tim Mullen (Co-Founder and Head of Customer Experience at JobVibe) and published at JobVibe.  The blog suggests that our hyper-driven society today has made it impossible to live up to ours, and everyone else’s, expectations.  Everyone has to be the best with every decision at every moment or face consequences like lower stock prices, job loss, or just major disappointment.  So in times like this, celebration our successes is even more important.  Tim suggests making celebration a habit,

While the end of the year is an obvious time to focus on it, celebrating is a long-term behaviour we all need to build into how we work. There will always be things you can improve on as a team – that’s a critical part of culture too – but when you wait a whole year to recognise what’s good, it can be hard to keep team spirit strong throughout.

In times of change, celebrating is even more important. A friend of mine is at an organisation going through a big organisational restructure. But in amongst all of the uncertainty, their team still finds the time to come together to celebrate the good things they’re doing. Because as she says, “it actually helps to keep us together”.

It also helps us to know that the hours spent at work mean something. It makes us proud to work for our company. It makes us more likely to tell our friends and family, to band together when times are tough, to live and breathe the values of our company. It makes us motivated to do more because we want to do more.

When was the last time you and your team really celebrated the successes?  How can you make celebration a habit?

That’s a WRAP!  Have a wonderful and bright New Year!  You deserve it!
